The enzyme studied in this experiment is called “catalase.” Catalase is an enzyme found in nearly all living organisms. Catalase has one of the highest turnover rates of Lab Objectives. At the conclusion of the lab, the student should be able to: define the following terms: metabolism, reactant, product, substrate, enzyme, denature. describe what the active site of an enzyme is (be sure to include information regarding the relationship of the active site to the substrate) describe the specific action of the enzyme catalase, include the substrate and products of the reaction. Each of these enzymes is responsible for one particular reaction that occurs in the cell. In this lab, you will study an enzyme that is found in the cells of many living tissues. The name of the enzyme is catalase; it speeds up a reaction which breaks down hydrogen peroxide, a toxic chemical, into two harmless substances → water and oxygen.

2016-07-27 · This simple investigation can be completed using materials easily obtained from stores. In a series of tests, students observe how the enzyme catalase breaks down hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water.

We extracted catalase from turnips, and investigated the effects of four factors on the speed of the enzymatic reaction. The factors were: temperature, pH,  This led to our hypothesis for the actual experiment. Lab Set-up.

As oxygen is produced, gas pressure will increase. This is an biology lab report example about enzyme concentration and the activity of catalase. This biology lab report example can be used in order to figure out how to write a lab report for biology courses. The headings of the biology lab report example are given below. In the first part of the enzyme lab, we mixed a substrate and an indicator with an enzyme.

Enzymes are organic catalysts that can affect the rate of a chemical reaction depending on the pH level and the concentration of the enzyme. Enzymes are picky about the conditions in which they work best. The temperature and pH must be ideal for the enzyme to catalyze reactions effi ciently. For any chemical reaction, raising the temperature will increase the movement of the molecules and cause more collisions to occur.
